Lewis-Clark State College and North Idaho College formalized a new partnership on Thursday, September 12, designed to streamline the educational journey for students seeking both associate and bachelor’s degrees. The agreement, signed at NIC’s Coeur d’Alene campus, allows learners to enroll simultaneously at the two-year community college and the four-year public university.
The collaboration builds on more than four decades of cooperation between the institutions. Under the new framework, students can pursue an associate degree at North Idaho College while accessing resources at Lewis-Clark State College. This includes library services and academic advising at both locations, creating a more integrated support system for those navigating higher education.
Tuition costs will be determined by the institution offering each specific course, with residency pricing applied as it is for single-enrollment students. The structure aims to reduce financial barriers while maintaining clear accountability for educational expenses.
LCSC President Cynthia Pemberton emphasized the long-standing relationship between the schools. “LC State and NIC have worked together for more than 40 years to seamlessly meet North Idaho’s education needs,” Pemberton told the Lewiston Tribune.
The partnership specifically targets working adults in Idaho who need flexible educational options. By allowing students to tailor their curricular choices, the agreement seeks to improve undergraduate access and increase associate degree completion rates. NIC graduates will satisfy all general education core requirements at LCSC, unless specific classes are mandated for their chosen bachelor’s program.
An LCSC news release noted that the partnership provides a wider array of options, allowing students to fit their education around personal goals and preferences. The initiative reflects a broader effort to make higher education more accessible and efficient for Idaho residents without expanding government spending or altering existing tuition structures.
