The Nez Perce Tribe’s Environmental Restoration, Waste Management and Air Quality Program lifted an air quality advisory for the Nez Perce Reservation and surrounding areas Monday morning at 9 a.m., marking an improvement in regional air conditions tied to ongoing wildfire activity.
Current air quality readings have returned to the “Good” category on the Air Quality Index, with no restrictions currently in effect for the reservation or nearby communities. However, officials cautioned that conditions remain fluid as fire behavior and wind patterns shift across North-Central Idaho.
Nez Perce Tribe air quality managers noted that wildfire smoke could still enter the region depending on fire activity and prevailing winds. Some locations may experience heavier smoke than others as conditions change, particularly if fire growth or wind direction changes occur in nearby burn areas.
Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring local air quality forecasts and advisories as the wildfire season progresses. The advisory lift reflects current conditions but does not guarantee smoke will not return if atmospheric conditions favor smoke transport into the region.
North-Central Idaho communities recently faced an air quality advisory triggered by wildfire smoke, which prompted similar monitoring guidance across Nez Perce and neighboring counties. Wildfire response efforts in the region continue, with transmission line construction crews redirecting equipment to support firefighting operations near the Oregon-Idaho border.
Residents with respiratory conditions, children, and elderly individuals should remain aware of air quality changes, even during advisory-free periods, as smoke conditions can shift rapidly during fire season. Local air quality updates are available through the Nez Perce Tribe’s environmental programs.
