A driver was killed Monday morning when a truck left the road and came to rest against a tree near Lapwai, according to authorities investigating the crash.
The wreck was discovered around 8:30 a.m. on June 22 near Webb Ridge Road, approximately one mile south of Webb Road in Nez Perce County. First responders found a 1975 GMC truck lying on its side against a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other occupants were in the vehicle. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. The crash involved only the single vehicle, and an investigation remains ongoing.
The incident adds to a series of roadway and emergency events in the region in recent weeks. A wildfire earlier this month along Highway 95 north of Lewiston forced crews to respond near one of the area’s busiest travel corridors, and a vehicle fire on Lewiston Hill sparked a separate blaze that threatened nearby homes.
Anyone with information about Monday’s crash is encouraged to contact local law enforcement. The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details about the circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
What Comes Next
Investigators will continue working to determine the cause of the crash. The identity of the deceased will be released once family members have been notified. No timeline has been provided for the conclusion of the investigation.
