Idaho State Police released its annual Crime in Idaho Report for 2025, documenting a statewide decline across nearly every major offense category while revealing a more complicated picture in Nez Perce County, where some serious crimes dropped sharply but others increased.
The report, compiled from law enforcement agencies statewide through the National Incident-Based Reporting System, shows Nez Perce County’s overall crime rate edged down slightly to 46.95 incidents per 1,000 residents, compared to 47.02 in 2024. However, the aggregate figure masks significant variations within specific crime types.
Violent Crime and Property Crime Gains
Nez Perce County recorded substantial reductions in violent and property offenses. Assaults fell 10.8%, while burglaries declined 23.9%—a notable improvement in home and business security. Most striking was the 75% drop in robberies, suggesting fewer strong-arm thefts in the county. Motor vehicle thefts also decreased 1.9%, a modest but consistent gain.
Rising Concerns in Fraud and Drugs
The data revealed concerning upward trends in other categories. Fraud incidents surged 44.4%, reflecting broader vulnerabilities to scams and financial crimes. Drug and narcotic offenses climbed 11%, underscoring ongoing substance-abuse pressures in the region. Larceny rose 6.6%, and arson more than tripled, jumping from 2 offenses in 2024 to 6 in 2025.
The mixed results underscore the complexity of public safety trends. While progress against violent crime and residential burglary reflects law enforcement efforts and community vigilance, increases in fraud and drug-related offenses point to emerging challenges that regional agencies continue to address.
Statewide, Idaho’s overall crime performance aligned with the county’s downward trajectory, with the state experiencing gains across most major categories in 2025. The report serves as a baseline for local law enforcement planning and resource allocation in the year ahead.
