Idaho Gas Prices Rise Sharply While National Average Declines

Downtown Boise, Idaho

Idaho motorists are paying significantly more at the pump than their counterparts across most of the country, with regular gasoline averaging $4.35 per gallon statewide as of Monday, August 10. The state’s price jumped five cents over the previous week and has climbed 34 cents in the past month, putting Idaho seventh nationally for the highest gas costs.

Lewiston drivers are faring slightly better, with an average price of $4.07 per gallon—below the statewide average but still elevated. The national average stood just above $4 per gallon, having dropped nine cents over the same weekly period.

Over the past year, Idaho’s gas prices have surged 82 cents per gallon, reflecting broader energy market volatility and regional supply dynamics. The divergence between Idaho’s trajectory and the national downward trend suggests state-specific factors are driving local pump prices higher, even as broader U.S. prices moderate.
