Lewiston Woman Jailed After Stolen Vehicle Found During Highway 95 Pedestrian Call

Interstate highway

A 26-year-old Lewiston woman was taken into custody on felony and misdemeanor charges after a Saturday night call brought an Idaho County sheriff’s deputy to a stretch of Highway 95 near the White Bird community.

Idaho County Dispatch received the report around 9:15 p.m. on June 6, 2026. A caller described a woman walking down the center of the highway near Hoot’s Café, just outside White Bird, and said the woman was refusing to move to the roadway’s shoulder despite traffic conditions.

Deputy Locates Disoriented Woman, Discovers Stolen Vehicle

A responding deputy located the woman, who appeared disoriented at the time of contact. She was transported to Syringa Hospital for a medical evaluation. During the encounter, she threw a set of keys into a nearby ditch. The deputy retrieved the keys and found a vehicle parked in the area. A records check revealed that vehicle had been reported stolen.

Christy Gill, 26, of Lewiston was subsequently arrested. She faces a felony charge of grand theft by receiving, possessing, or disposing of stolen property, as well as a misdemeanor charge of being a pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs in a public roadway.

Rural Highway Stretch Poses Safety Risks

The incident unfolded along a rural section of Highway 95, a major north-south corridor through Idaho that passes through mountainous terrain in Idaho County. The area around White Bird, including the canyon road leading to and from that community, sees both local and commercial traffic and can be hazardous for pedestrians — particularly after dark.

Law enforcement agencies across the region periodically respond to calls involving pedestrians in roadways, which can present serious dangers both to the individual and to motorists. Charges related to pedestrian impairment in a roadway carry potential fines and jail time under Idaho law, while felony stolen property charges carry significantly more serious penalties upon conviction.

For those interested in other recent law enforcement activity in the area, the Lewiston Police Activity Log from April 1, 2026 offers a snapshot of local public safety calls and arrests from earlier this spring.

What Comes Next

Gill is expected to face proceedings in Idaho County following her arrest. The felony stolen property charge will likely be handled at the district court level, while the misdemeanor pedestrian impairment charge would be addressed in magistrate court. No additional details regarding the origin of the stolen vehicle or the circumstances leading up to the Highway 95 incident were immediately available. Further information is expected to emerge as the case moves through the Idaho County court system.
