Lewiston city crews are set to begin their annual street maintenance program this week, officials announced, kicking off a months-long effort to preserve pavement quality and extend the service life of roads across the city.
According to a city news release, the first phase of work will focus on pavement patching throughout the month of May. Later in the season, crews will shift to seal coat and fog coat treatments, which are scheduled to get underway in July.
City officials noted that motorists should anticipate possible delays when traveling through active construction zones and urged drivers to slow down and proceed with caution in those areas.
The annual maintenance program reflects the city’s ongoing approach to road stewardship — addressing wear and deterioration before it worsens, reducing the long-term cost of more extensive repairs. Surface treatments such as seal coating and fog coating help lock in existing pavement and protect it from weather-related damage.
Residents planning travel routes this summer may want to monitor city announcements for specific street closures or detour information as work progresses into the busier July treatment phase. The maintenance push comes as Lewiston continues to invest in its public infrastructure. Earlier this year, the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality awarded the City of Lewiston $1.8 million to support separate infrastructure improvements.
